Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-02

The short version

Buy a poster, we print it and send it. If it arrives damaged or wrong, tell us and we will fix it at no cost to you.

Custom posters are made from your data, one at a time, specifically for you, so we cannot resell them. That means we cannot take them back because you changed your mind. Everything else on this page follows from those two facts.

Your route data stays yours. The poster design stays ours. Nobody is trying to be clever about it.

1. Who you are dealing with

Elevated Trail Maps ("ETM", "we", "us") operates elevatedtrailmaps.com.

Operated by: Claudio Afonso, trading as New Age Design Co., a sole proprietorship registered in British Columbia, Canada

By using this site or placing an order, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not order.

You must be at least the age of majority where you live to place an order, or have permission from a parent or guardian.

2. What we sell

Custom posters. A poster generated from a route you provide, either by connecting Strava or by uploading a GPX file. Every one is unique, made to your specification, printed after you order it.

Trail network posters. Our own designs of established trail networks, printed to order.

Digital downloads. A high-resolution file, delivered by email or download link, with no physical item shipped.

Posters are available in the sizes and finishes shown in the gallery. Framed options are printed and framed by our print partner and shipped ready to hang.

3. Orders and payment

3.1 Placing an order

Adding something to your cart is not an order. Your order is placed when you complete payment, and accepted when we email you a confirmation.

We may decline or cancel an order if the item is unavailable, if there is a pricing or description error, if we cannot process the payment, or if we reasonably suspect fraud. If we cancel, you get a full refund and we will tell you why.

3.2 Payment

We accept the payment methods shown at checkout, processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

All prices are in Canadian dollars unless stated otherwise.

3.3 Taxes and duties

Prices on the site do not include sales tax. For orders delivered in Canada, GST or HST is added at checkout, and so is PST for addresses in British Columbia. Orders delivered outside Canada are not charged Canadian sales tax.

International orders may attract customs duties, import taxes, or handling fees on arrival. These are set by your country, not by us, they are not included in the price you paid, and you are responsible for them. We cannot tell you in advance what they will be. If you refuse a delivery because of unexpected charges, we cannot refund the poster, because it has already been printed for you.

3.4 Pricing errors

If a price on the site is obviously wrong, we may cancel the order and refund you in full rather than honour it. We will not do this to wriggle out of a promotion, only where a genuine error has occurred.

4. Shipping and delivery

Posters are printed and shipped by Gelato, our print partner, from whichever facility in their network is closest to your delivery address. This keeps shipping quicker and emissions lower than shipping everything from one place.

Shipping rates

ItemShipping
Unframed poster, any size, any destinationFree
Framed poster, 12 × 16 inCA$15 for the first, CA$10 for each additional
Framed poster, 18 × 24 inCA$25 for the first, CA$15 for each additional
Framed poster, 24 × 32 inCA$35 for the first, CA$20 for each additional

Timing. A poster usually arrives within 12 days of ordering, and a framed poster within 14 days; framed pieces take longer to make. Those figures come from our own order history and cover nine orders in ten. Any date we give you is an estimate, not a guarantee. We are not liable for delays caused by the carrier, customs, weather, or anything else outside our control.

Wrong address. Make sure your shipping address is right before you pay. If a parcel is returned to us as undeliverable because the address was wrong or nobody claimed it, we can reship it if you cover the shipping again.

Lost or damaged in transit. Tell us within 30 days of the expected delivery date and we will sort it out. See section 5.

5. Returns, refunds and cancellations

Read this section before you buy. We would rather you knew now than found out later.

5.1 If it arrives damaged, defective, or wrong

We will reprint and reship it free, or refund you in full, whichever you prefer.

Email support@elevatedtrailmaps.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of the problem. You will not need to send the original back. This covers print defects, damage in transit, and us shipping the wrong thing.

5.2 Custom posters: no change-of-mind returns

Custom posters are made to your specification from your own data. They cannot be resold to anyone else. For that reason we cannot accept returns or offer refunds on custom posters because you changed your mind, ordered the wrong size, or do not like how it turned out.

Every poster's product page shows the artwork in each colourway and size before you pay. Check it carefully. If you are unsure how a colourway or size will look, email us before ordering and we will help.

If you spot a mistake, contact us immediately at support@elevatedtrailmaps.com. If your order has not yet gone into production we will do our best to cancel or amend it, but once printing has started we cannot.

5.3 Trail network posters

Trail network posters are also printed to order rather than held in stock, so the same applies: no change-of-mind returns. Damaged or defective items are covered by 5.1.

5.4 Digital downloads

Once a download link has been sent, the file cannot be returned. Digital orders are non-refundable except where the file is corrupt or will not open, in which case tell us and we will fix or refund it.

By buying a digital download you agree to immediate delivery and acknowledge that this ends any statutory cancellation right you would otherwise have.

5.5 If you are in the EU or the UK

You normally have 14 days to cancel a distance purchase without giving a reason. That right does not apply to goods made to your specification or clearly personalised, or to digital content you have already downloaded with your consent.

In practice: custom posters and digital downloads are exempt. Trail network posters made to order are also produced individually for you rather than held in stock.

None of this affects your rights where an item is faulty, damaged, or not as described. Those rights always apply and section 5.1 covers them.

5.6 Refund timing

Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. We do not control that part.

6. Your data, your route, your rights

6.1 You keep what is yours

Your route, your activity data, and any text you add stay yours. We do not claim ownership of them.

6.2 What you let us do with it

By placing an order, you give us permission to use your route and activity data solely to design, render, print and deliver your poster, and to reprint it if there is a problem. That permission is limited to fulfilling your order. It is not a licence to do anything else.

We will not use your route in marketing, on the site, on social media, or in any promotional material without asking you first and getting a clear yes.

6.3 What you promise us

You confirm that you have the right to the data you upload or connect, and that using it does not infringe anyone else's rights. Do not upload someone else's activity and put their name on it.

6.4 Content we will not print

We will not print anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, obscene, or that infringes someone's trademark or copyright. If you submit something in that category we will cancel the order and refund you.

7. Our intellectual property

The poster designs, map styling, layout, typography, brand name, logo, site design and copy are ours or licensed to us. Buying a poster buys you the poster, not the design.

You may: hang it, photograph it, give it as a gift, resell the physical item you bought.

You may not: reproduce the design commercially, mass-produce copies, resell the digital file, or use our designs as the basis for products of your own.

Terrain contours on custom posters are generated from open elevation data served through the AWS Open Data programme, from the Terrain Tiles dataset managed by Mapzen. That dataset aggregates public elevation sources including the United States Geological Survey (3DEP, GMTED and SRTM), Natural Resources Canada under the Open Government Licence, the Copernicus EU-DEM, and equivalent national datasets elsewhere. Full source and attribution details are published by the Tilezen project.

Our trail maps are derived from OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License), modified and supplemented with our own GPS trail data, with contours adjusted for artistic presentation.

8. Strava

Strava is a trademark of Strava, Inc. ETM is an independent application. Strava does not sponsor, endorse, or have any affiliation with ETM.

Connecting Strava is optional. You can upload a GPX file instead and never touch it.

Your use of Strava is governed by Strava's own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for Strava, for its availability, for the accuracy of the data it provides, or for anything that happens to your Strava account. If Strava changes or restricts its API, some features here may stop working, and that is outside our control.

We handle Strava data as described in our Privacy Policy, which is written to meet Strava's own API requirements.

9. Accuracy of what we print

We render your route as faithfully as the source data allows. GPS data is not perfect. Signal drops under tree cover, in valleys, and in cities. Elevation figures from consumer devices vary.

We print what your data says. We do not correct, smooth away, or invent route sections. If your GPS wandered on the day, your poster will show that it wandered, and the live preview will show you exactly what will be printed before you pay.

Colours on your screen will not match print exactly. Screens emit light, paper reflects it. We calibrate as closely as we can, but a small difference in shade is not a defect.

10. Disclaimers

The site and everything on it is provided "as is" and "as available".

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. This disclaimer is also made on behalf of our third-party service providers, including Strava, Stripe, Gelato, Amazon Web Services and our hosting and infrastructure providers, and each of them is excluded from all liability for consequential, special, punitive and indirect damages.

We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Nothing here limits any rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded, including under the BC Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, or the equivalent in your country.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim connected to your order or your use of this site is limited to the amount you actually paid for the order in question.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill.

Again: this does not limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

12. Indemnity

If you break these terms or infringe someone else's rights, and we get a claim as a result, you agree to cover our reasonable costs in dealing with it.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version in force when you place an order is the version that applies to that order, so changes are never applied backwards.

If we make a significant change we will update the date at the top and, where it matters, tell you directly.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of British Columbia.

If you are a consumer in the EEA or the UK, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your own country, or of your right to bring a claim there.

15. Odds and ends

Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

No waiver. If we do not enforce something immediately, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.

Entire agreement. These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about your use of this site.
